City of Santa Clarita TRICK-OR-TREAT Safety Tips

During Halloween, it is important for trick-or-treaters to follow safety precautions and rules while having a good time. The City offers these tips to ensure safety for everyone:
  • Always carry a flashlight, some streets do not have properly lit areas making it easy for pedestrians to fall, trip and not see what objects are ahead a few feet.
  • Pedestrians should always walk and never run while always stay on sidewalks and out of the streets. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road facing traffic and always obey traffic signals.

Mayor Joins in Oak Tree Day Celebration

Today was Oak Tree Day in Santa Clarita, where residents came to learn about, plant, and even take home some Oak trees.

Mayor Laurene Weste was on hand along with Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean to welcome and thank the crowd that showed up to support the day’s events.

Tonights the Night to Turn Back Time

That's right, tonight, (or technically tomorrow morning) is the night where most of America will be turning back the clock an hour for Daylight Savings.  While the time does mean darkness sooner for all of us, it also means we can all sleep an extra hour tomorrow morning.

Sheriff's Dept. Kicks Off Toy Drive

The Sheriff’s Department has officially kicked off their 2006 Community Toy Drive.

This program collects donated toys from local schools and dispenses them to underprivileged families for the holidays.

“No matter who you are or what situation you’re in, it’s always nice to know that you can support your family” says Deputy Laurie Baylis, one of the organizers of the drive.

Truck Loses Control, Hits Propane Fueling Station

Last night a truck lost control while exiting the Northbound 5 freeway at

. According to Lt. Dunkle of the Sheriff’s Department, the truck went off the off ramp, through a Burger King parking lot, and hit a propane refueling tank at a gas station.

Taxi Cab Catches Fire at Canyon High School!


A Taxi Cab caught fire in the parking lot in front of Canyon High School just before noon today. The fire fully engulfed the car and is believed to have started in the hood.
