I-5 Lanes Closed North of Castaic

A brush fire, which broke out one week ago is currently burning north of Castaic near the I-5 and has forced the closure of northbound lanes of the I-5 at Parker Road and southbound lanes at Hwy 138.

The best alternate northbound route would be the westbound 126 to the northbound 101 or take the 14 north to the 138.

1,400+ fire personnel are currently fighting this fire which has burned 15,000 acres. No homes or structures are threatened

Knights Football Team Falls To Predators

The day did not go the way the Santa Clarita Knights had hoped. After delaying the Kickoff nearly an hour from its 3pm time, due to the officials being late the game started with Predator kick return to about the Knights 30.

The Knights defense held strong and forced a missed FG. Forced to punt, JD Dorfman took the low snap and ran a sweep to the left, unable to convert the 4th down. The Predators took over and were on the board in 8 plays, failing the PAT.

Bill Regarding Teacher Pay Back Defeated

A bill proposed by state Senator George Runner that could limit back pay for teachers who have pled guilty to illegal drugs was defeated in the state Assembly.The bill, which was defeated in a 38-32 vote, would've let school districts have the option of whether or not they wanted to pay back pay & benefits to those who are arrested.  For the whole story, see Monday's Signal.

Long-Term Closure of Southbound I-5 Off-ramp at San Fernando Mission Blvd., 9/8

Sylmar/North San Fernando Valley – As part of the ongoing $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14 – the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the southbound I-5 off-ramp at San Fernando Mission Blvd. from 8 p.m. Friday, September 8 through 8 p.m. Friday, November 3.
The southbound I-5 off-ramp at Paxton Street is a suggested alternate off-ramp during this ramp closure.

Route 14 to Close at Agua Dulce Canyon Road

SANTA CLARITA – The California Department of Transportation will close the southbound Antelope Valley Freeway (Route 14) from Escondido Canyon Road to Agua Dulce Canyon Road on Sunday, September 10, from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Northbound Route 14 will be closed from Agua Dulce Canyon Road to Escondido Canyon Road from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Detours will be posted.
