Deputies Catch Man Suspected in String of Store Robberies

Christopher Johnson, who was arrested Friday, has been charged with 26 counts of robbery-related crimes.

The Canyon Country man has been charged in connection with a string of liquor store holdups in Santa Clarita & Glendale dating back to 2005.

SCV “Book Flood” Benefits Five Louisiana Schools

Santa Clarita Valley Realtor Frank Ball is a long way from his hometown of Houma, La.  But the 175 students at his alma mater, Dularge Elementary School, have been on his mind lately. Hurricane Rita pounded the community of Houma, including Dularge Elementary and other local schools.   Although students are back in class, they still lack a number of key learning resources.  Chief among them: library books.

Help Old Town Newhall - April 22nd, 2006

Do you want to help Old Town Newhall get ready for the Poetry Festival? Come out and help Saturday, April 22nd, between 7 AM and 12 PM. Help clean up Old Town Newhall by planting flowers, watering plants and cleaning the wonderful saddles in the sidewalk. If your organization, and/or clubs, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts etc, need community service hours, come out and help. April 12th, 2006 marks the twelfth year in which CalArts and the Herb Alpert Foundation announce the recipients of Alpert Award fellowships. Also, for the first time, the Alpert Award is sponsoring twelve residency prizes.
 

Free Easter Egg Hunt for Kids! April 16th

Looking for fun and safe Easter activities for kids? Go to Helmer's Elementary School in Valencia on Easter Sunday, April 16th from 11am to 1:30pm. Activities include an Easter egg hunt, egg coloring, a fun bounce house and coloring contests. Lunch is available for everyone who comes. Everything is completely free! All activities and food have been provided by SCV Chamber Member - Berean Baptist.

City Sees Lowest Voter Turnout

CSUN political science professor says that usually means residents are content.

Santa Clarita saw its lowest voter turnout ever for Tuesday's City Council election, with only @ 13.2% of the city's registered voters casting ballots.

 

Antonovich Measure Prevents Fraudulent Reproduction of Official County Documents

To protect against the fraudulent misuse of the Los Angeles County seal, logos or the Sheriff’s Star, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Mayor Michael D. Antonovich’s motion directing the Internal Services Department Director and County Counsel to review and amend County vendor contracts.

City’s 3rd Annual United Way Telethon May 25th, 2006

Get those checkbooks handy! The City of Santa Clarita is partnering with local businesses and the community to support the United Way at the third annual Santa Clarita United Way Telethon on Thursday, May 25, 2006 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Local businesses and members of the community are encouraged to call in and donate money to their favorite local charities. Since the event began in 2004, the Telethon has raised over $400,000 for local non-profit organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley.
