New Personal Safety Campaign Launched

Twice annually, the City, the Sheriffs department and L.A. County Fire will host special meetings in the four communities within the City, including Newhall, Valencia, Canyon Country and Saugus.  The community meetings will address issues related to crime and safety. The community meetings will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

County Budget Shortchanges Public Safety

Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich said the CAO’s $19.4 billion dollar proposed 2006-2007 budget shortchanges public safety. “Gang warfare continues to plague our County.  We must address the gang issue by meeting the needs of the Sheriff, the District Attorney, and Probation --  instead of raising taxes or issuing more bonds as suggested by the CAO and Sheriff.  Public safety must be the top priority.

Antonovich Announces Funding for 132 Summer Internships

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission has given grants totaling $530,000 to 96 performing, literary, media and municipal arts organizations throughout the County to support paid internships for college undergraduates in summer 2006, announced Mayor Michael D. Antonovich.
Organizations in the Fifth Supervisorial District offering arts internships include:
A Noise Within (Glendale)
Alex Regional Theatre Board (Glendale)

Full Freeway Closure Planned for Route 126 Pavement Project

Caltrans will close portions of State Route 126 as part of a 13-mile pavement replacement project. The entire project extends from the Ventura Freeway (U.S. 101) to Hallock Drive.  The following closures are weather permitting and subject to change, ramp closures are as needed:
Daily, Monday April 17, through Wednesday April 19:
