San Francisquito Road Closers

San Francisquito Canyon Road will be closer between March 1st and March 15th between Santa Clarita and Green Valley....

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works is closing the road in order to replace a one-lane bridge with a new two-lane bridge.

Parents Concerned About Violence




After hearing parents’ complaints about the racially charged atmosphere at Golden Valley High School, members of the Hart district board are grappling with ways to ease tensions at the two-year-old school. Two parents asked the William S. Hart Union High School District board on Wednesday why no report was filed after their son was allegedly elbowed in the stomach, picked on for a week and then cornered in a bathroom before Friday’s melee broke out.

Lee Trevino To Compete In AT&T Tournament

The AT&T Classic today announced the commitment from Lee Trevino, a 29-time winner on the Champions Tour and the first golfer to ever win the U.S. Open, Canadian Open and British Open in the same year, to compete in its 2006 tournament, scheduled March 6-12, 2006, at the acclaimed Valencia Country Club in Santa Clarita.  He will start the week playing with George Lopez on Wednesday at the AT&T Classic Pro-Am.

 

Hart District Honor Band Gala Tonight

Looking for something to warm your heart, lift your spirits and stir the soul? Then you’ll want to attend tonight’s second annual Hart District Honor Band Gala set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium on Newhall Avenue.

The stage is set as the gala is about to get underway. The musicians are practiced, silent auction items beckon, and hors d’oeuvre trays ready to pass. The only thing left is to welcome the audience. Tickets are still available for tonight’s concert performance that you won’t want to miss.

Kings Win 3-2

On Thursday night, the Kings beat the Wild 3-2, getting the game winning goal from Lubomir Visnovsky with under 3:00 remaining in the game.  You can hear more Kings hockey on KHTS, Saturday at 1:00pm, when they will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Fundraiser for Rita Barna March 11 & 12

Saturday, March 11th and Sunday March12th, the Camelot Riding Club will be hosting a Los Angeles Horse Shows Association horse show and a Tri Valley Horse Show. On both days, a raffle and silent auction will be held benefiting the Rita Barna Fund.



Rita Barna, a local riding instructor and host of Along the Trail, heard Saturdays at 9AM on AM-1220 KHTS is currently undergoing physical therapy as a result of a stroke she suffered last November.



Scholarship Established in Cougar Football Players Name

Mike Sandnes was an exceptional student athlete, a natural leader and an inspiration to those whose lives he touched. Above all else, he was a determined yet compassionate person, a loving son, and a vibrant young man whose life was just beginning to blossom when cancer claimed him at 21. Twenty-seven years after they buried their son, Richard and Marian Sandnes have established a scholarship in Mike's name at College of the Canyons. Richard Sandnes readily acknowledges that they could not have afforded such a tribute at the time of Mike's death.

Runner Introduces Legislation To Curb Tow-Truck Abuse

(SACRAMENTO) --- Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) and Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) along with the California Tow Truck Association, and the North County Apartment Managers Association have introduced legislation to address predatory tow truck companies who exploit car owners through inappropriate private property tows. “We need to put an end to unscrupulous towing practices that exploit car owners just to increase their profits at the car owners’ expense.

Five Newhall Schools Earn State Recognition

Principals and staff at five Newhall District schools received word today that they have been nominated as Distinguished Schools and will be visited by verification teams from the California Department of Education during the month of March. Nominated for this prestigious award are:  Old Orchard Elementary, Pico Canyon Elementary, Peachland Avenue Elementary, Valley Elementary, and Wiley Canyon Elementary.

 The site visitation is designed to verify information that each site submitted in their application for consideration.

Hilltop Residents Asking for Access

Attorneys to file injunction that may allow homeowners to cross through Oasis Campground road.Residents who live in a little more than a dozen hilltop homes in the unincorporated Agua Dulce area are still fighting to obtain access to a road through private property to save them from a bumpy four-mile access road.
