Lockheed Player of the Week

Congratulations, Nate Bichara of Hart High for being a “Player of the Week”.
Nate Bichara, hit nine 3-pointers in the wild card round of CIF–Southern Section Division 1-A basketball playoffs.  The senior Bichara had an astounding 37 total points towards the Indians win over Santa Maria High, 83-61.
Congratulations, Nate, from Lockheed Federal Credit Union and KHTS AM-1220!
For his performance, Lockheed Federal Credit Union will donate $250 to the Hart High School booster club.

SCV Sheriffs Station Hires 4 Detectives

New lieutenant also starts as part of response to growing concerns over lack of county funded personnel.Four new detectives & one lieutenant have begun working at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station in response to continued concerns that there's not been an increase in county funded personnel parallel to the growing cost the city pays for police services. 

County Hopes to Alleviate Jails

Supervisors move to re-examine state contract regarding housing California prisoners in local correctional facilities.In an effort to alleviate an understaffed & crowded jail system that has for weeks faced nearly a dozen racially charged riots, the Board of Supervisors moved to end a $28 million contract with the state that has allowed its prisoners to be housed in Los Angeles County jails. 

Valencia Loses 71-69

On Tuesday night, the Valencia Vikings Boys Basketball team lost to the San Gorgonio Spartans, 71-69.  In other playoff action, the Canyon Cowboys lost to Mission Viejo 74-45.

College of the Canyons to Host William S. Hart School District Theatre Project

The College of the Canyons theatre department is hosting the William S. Hart High School Shakespeare festival at the Vital Express Performing Arts Center Wednesday February 22. This is an all day event from 8:30 am - 6 pm. The event will include workshops in the morning, and complete body & voice warm-ups in the afternoon. The students finish the day with competing monologues. Students in attendance are from Hart, Valencia, Saugus and Canyon High Schools.

Ewart Family Weekly Update

Here’s the latest weekly update on the Ewart Family. In the early morning on Tuesday, December 20th, fire destroyed their Valencia home. Six family members were in the house at the time, three were seriously injured and sent to the Grossman Burn Center.  David and Michael Ewart were in the most serious condition.

City to Develop 10-Year Plan for Transportation

As Santa Clarita grows, so does the need for effective transportation. In light of that, the city’s transit division is formulating a 10-year vision to update its transportation plan. The update is a project that will focus on 2006 through 2015, including research and presentation of transit service needs, in addition to crafting a financial plan. Once complete, the plan will evaluate transit service needs in Newhall, Canyon Country, Saugus and Valencia, plus communities in neighboring unincorporated Los Angeles County.
