KHTS at Carvel – Cinnabon Grand Opening

The city's first Carvel(R) Ice Cream-Cinnabon(R) shop will hold its official grand opening celebration Saturday, Feb. 25th, with festivities lasting from 12 - 5 pm, and KHTS AM-1220 will be there!
 
 
The Sopranos celebrate birthdays with the cold stuff. Jerry Seinfeld wants to marry the hot stuff. Homer Simpson and Kelly Ripa love it all.  And now Santa Clarita residents can enjoy America's freshest ice cream along with the world's most famous cinnamon rolls.  The store is located at 22880 Copperhill Drive in the Seco Canyon shopping center.

City Switches to New Environmentally Friendly Leaf Blowers

The City of Santa Clarita has taken yet another step in its effort to be a truly “green” City by trading in nine old leaf blowers for new, more environmentally friendly blowers. As part of a program offered by the Air Quality Management District (AQMD), the City was able to get the new Stihl brand blowers for a total of $200. New blowers typically cost about $500 each. City staff members use the blowers at various locations throughout the City, including the seventeen parks facilities. The new blowers offer the same efficiency as the old, but emit substantially less exhaust into the air.

With a Little Help, College of the Canyons Hockey Slides into Nationals

With the top four teams from each division receiving an invitation to the American Collegiate Hockey  Association's National Tournament in March, #6 College of the Canyons (11-11) figured its season to be at an end. Then the team remembered that #3 UC Irvine had only begun play this season, and therefore wasn't eligible for the nationals. And then they heard that #2 California State University, Northridge played with ineligible players all season, and was disqualified.

City Annexes Two New Areas

The City of Santa Clarita is pleased to welcome the communities of Northpark, and California Canyons into the City. On Wednesday, February 22, 2006 these two neighborhoods were approved to be annexed into the City by Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO). A final protest hearing were held Wednesday morning and the annexations approved by LAFCO following the meetings. The annexations will not become official until recordation, which is expected to occur within a few days.

Annual Essay And Poster Contest Awards Recognition Ceremony To be Held

The City of Santa Clarita’s Human Relations Forum will honor the winners of the Forum’s annual Essay and Poster Contest at a special Award Recognition Ceremony on Monday, February 27, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at the City’s Activities Center. The Activities Center is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway. The annual contest attracted over 430 entries this year, competing for cash prizes in four age categories. Elementary, junior and high school students submitted essays and posters centered around this year’s prompt: “Everyone has experienced being made fun of, bullied or left out.

City to Receive Four New Detectives One New Lieutenant

In an effort to address Santa Clarita’s concerns with regard to its Sheriff’s contract and the provision of adequate staffing, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department has added four new detective positions and a new lieutenant position, effective immediately for the Santa Clarita Valley station. In a recent series of meetings between Sheriff officials and the city managers from Lancaster, Palmdale, and Santa Clarita regarding staffing levels and services, all agreed that several staffing levels needed to be increased.

City Plans to Submit Grant Proposal to Bureau of Justice

The City of Santa Clarita will be submitting a grant proposal for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant offered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The City intends on using the grant money to fund activities conducted by the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Community Interaction Team (CIT), which strives to enhance community safety. Specific programs to be funded include: sting operations, curfew sweeps, graffiti and anti-gang enforcement, probation/parole enforcement, undercover operations, and other surveillance operations.

Lockheed Player of the Week

Congratulations, Nate Bichara of Hart High for being a “Player of the Week”.
 
Nate Bichara, hit nine 3-pointers in the wild card round of CIF–Southern Section Division 1-A basketball playoffs.  The senior Bichara had an astounding 37 total points towards the Indians win over Santa Maria High, 83-61.

For his performance, Lockheed Federal Credit Union will donate $250 to the Hart High School booster club.
