Truck Rollover Injures Two

Two people from Oklahoma were injured Friday morning when their truck and camper rolled over on Interstate 5. The car’s occupants, Deloris Ward and Rian Ockerman, both 43, told California Highway Patrol officers that they were traveling between 40 and 45 mph on the southbound I-5 transition to northbound Highway 14 when a gust of wind caused their camper to topple over at about 9:45 a.m. CHP Officer Christian Bond said the maximum speed allowed on that stretch of highway is 55 mph.

Supermodel Pleads Not Guilty to Credit Card Theft Charges

Supermodel Beverly Peele pleaded not guilty to felony charges of credit card theft in the Santa Clarita Superior Court on Friday. The 30-year-old Saugus mother of two was arrested Dec. 26, 2005, for allegedly stealing two people’s credit cards and charging an estimated $10,000 to purchase a refrigerator, washer, dryer and bedding. Peele, who has worked in the modeling industry since the age of 12 and has appeared on more than 250 magazine covers, allegedly charged the credit card of an Orange County man who has used it at the John Robert Powers modeling agency, where Peele had worked.

COC and the Culinary Arts

With many flourishing restaurants in the Santa Clarita Valley and a growing number of students interested in the lucrative and creative field of culinary arts, College of the Canyons is preparing to unveil a culinary arts degree program that will cater to the field’s high demand. The first class offered will be Foods and Nutrition in the Restaurant Industry. It will be available in the spring semester, which begins Feb. 6. The class includes fundamental culinary techniques for commercial kitchen operations.
