    See Historic Downtown Newhall

    The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society invites anyone interested in docenting for the next year to a walking tour of downtown Newhall.  Newhall has a unique history that lies just under the surface of an ongoing Newhall Redevelopment.  Some buildings look new and some look dated, but some are actually very old.  On New Years Eve this year we will take you on a walk of Newhall that will point these out while talking about the town’s colorful history.

    Kings win 5-3

    The Los Angeles Kings beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 tonight. The Kings have won their past three games against the Avalanche keeping their winning streak against alive.  Tune in tomorrow when the Kings take on the Phoenix Coyotes at 5:30pm.  Keep your dial tuned to Santa Clarita’s only local radio station, AM1220 KHTS.

    Sixteen DUIs Reported Over the Weekend

    Sixteen arrests were made, four by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, and 12 by the California Highway Patrol, over the holiday weekend (including Friday and Monday night).

    The weekend marked what law enforcement officials deem a "maximum enforcement period."  This will take place again over the New Years'  weekend.

    Homicide Investigation Continues

    Investigators are still continuing the search for a motorist involved in a chase that resulted in the death of a Highway Patrol officer near the Grapevine....

    On December 21, Officer Erick Manny was travelling over 100 mph in pursuit of a black Acura RSX when he lost control and went over the side of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) near the Grapevine exit.

    Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call (800) 835-5247.

    Ewart Family Tragedy: Wednesday Update

    The following is an update on the Ewart family fire, courtesy of Josy & Steve Block. The fire destroyed the Ewart's Valencia home last Tuesday. Three family members are still in critical, but stable condition.

    Lane Closures for I-5 Carpool Lane Construction 12/27 – 12/30

    (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), as part of a $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:

    Stevenson Ranch Landscape Project Completed

    Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced that the landscape project on the Pico Canyon Road median in Stevenson Ranch has been completed.

    Retailers Ready for Post-holiday Rush

    Gift card-wielding shoppers stormed local stores Monday, bustling about the sales floors and winding through epic lines. The activity tops off what Jack Kyser, chief economist of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., has called an unusual shopping season that has been both stimulated and sedated by surges in electronic innovation. Though new technology has lured some shoppers into marketplaces, Kyser said, an increase in online shopping and an explosion in gift cards might have created the illusion of a slow shopping season.

    Residents Split Over Castaic Sports Canyon

    While a proposed business park and motorized vehicle recreational facility was granted support in concept Wednesday by the Castaic Area Town Council, residents from the closest housing community seem to remain split in opinion. The young Double C Ranch housing community in Castaic enjoys a clean-cut neighborhood along the end of The Old Road, but about a mile north across the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 would lie the proposed Castaic Action Sports Canyon and Castaic Business Park.
