Lanes and ramps closed on Golden State Freeway (I-5)

North of Castaic to Frazier Park, Caltrans will close the following lanes and ramps of the northbound and southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) from Vista Del Lago (about two miles north of Castaic) to Frazier Park, as part of a one-year, 40-mile project to repair lanes on I-5 damaged from this year’s heavy rainstorms:

COC Board Candidate Reports Most of his Signs as Missing

Jonathon Kraut said he suspects vandalism is behind the recent disappearance of  nearly 90 percent of his campaign signs from across the Santa Clarita Valley. Kraut, who is running for a seat on the College of the Canyons Governing Board, said he and his team had posted some 200 signs at street corners throughout the city, before finding many of them missing Thursday.


Residents Lose Power After Transfromer Explosion

More than 120 Canyon Country residents, businesses and a school were left without power for up to three hours Friday as a result of electrical transformer explosion.  “There was an equipment failure on our line that caused the transformer to go out,” said Ernie Villegas, spokesman for Southern California Edison.   The transformer, located in the 20400 block of Delight Street, exploded around noon, Villegas said.  Though originally thought to be caused by a house fire, Villegas said Edison later determined the fire did not cause the transformer explosion.    “I don’t know if a bird flew in t

Open Space and Parkland Preservation Community Meetings

As part of an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of life in Santa Clarita, and to maintain a wealth of Open Space and Parkland for the community to benefit from, property owners within the City of Santa Clarita will be asked to vote on the creation of a proposed Open Space and Parkland Preservation District.  This potential Preservation District would enable the City to purchase various land parcels to slow escalating urban development within and surrounding the City, protect wildlife habitats, as well as provide funding to maintain and construct more parks in the City.

U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West at College of the Canyons

The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West will be performing a free concert on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vital Express Center for the Performing Arts on the College of the Canyons campus. Tickets will be passed out beginning at 6:45

p.m. at the theater on the night of the concert, on a first-come, first-served basis.

No advance tickets will be available. Parking is

available in Lot 2 after 6:30 p.m., and in Lots 3-6.
