Runner's Bill Signed Into Law - Part Of Governor's Vocational Education Package

Sacramento - Senator George Runner's (R-Antelope Valley) legislation to strengthen vocational education programs was signed into law today as a part of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's vocational education package.  Senate Bill 875 will incorporate a vocational education component into the After School Education and Safety Program.
"This new law is a part of the overall goal of emphasizing the importance of vocational education in preparing young Californians for success in the workforce and to recognize it as an honorable option for students," said Runner.

Lockheed Federal Player of the Week Alex Pettee

Congratulations to Alex Pettee of Hart High School for being selected as a Lockheed “Player of the Week”.
 
 
Pettee a Junior quarterback made his first start for Hart against Westlake High completing 13 of 21 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns.  His first touchdown pass came on a 61-yard play to give Hart a 14-7 lead in the first quarter.  Two possessions later, Pettee connected for an 18-yard touchdown and a 21-7 lead.  Pettee’s performance contributed greatly to Hart’s victory over Westlake 38-7.
 

Hart High School Closes Early Due to Power Outage

William S. Hart High School experienced a power failure at approximately 10:30am Wednesday, September 28.  Due to high winds, an electrical transformer went down across the street from the school.  With no electrical power to continue classes, Principal Fuller cancelled school and students were released at the conclusion of 5th period at 12:19pm.  No other schools within the district were affected by the power outage.

Truck Explodes on Highway 14

The blaze chars 10 acres of hillside as officials were still cleaning up the mess early Wednesday morning...A flatbed truck towing two vehicles caught fire & exploded Tuesday night on state Highway 14, touching off a hillside blaze that shutdown the southbound side of the freeway for about 30 minutes.  Get the story in Wednesday's Signal.

Major Bouquet Canyon Road Closures Today - Thru 9pm

Bouquet Canyon Road will have two of its three southbound lanes closed on Wednesday, September 28 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
 
The City is currently widening the Bouquet Canyon bridge across the Santa Clara River on Bouquet Canyon Road, between Newhall Ranch Road and Valencia Boulevard.  This $5 million bridge widening project has thus far resulted in few lane closures, however on September 28, Southern California Edison will be undergrounding utility lines and the City will need to close two lanes southbound on Bouquet.
 

Dodgers Lose to Diamondbacks 2-0

The Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-0 in the first game of a three game
series.  Jeff Weaver pitched a good game for the Dodgers, but Chad Tracy hit a 2-run
