Transit Ridership Up in the City as Gas Prices Rise

Recently compiled data by the City of Santa Clarita shows that transit ridership in the City has increased steadily over the last two years.  Partially attributed to rising fuel costs, this trend is expected to continue in response to increasingly high gas prices. 
The average California price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in August this year was approximately $2.72, up a full dollar from the average in August 2003, according to the US Department of Energy.

Lockheed Federal Credit Union - Player of the Week

Congratulations to Shane Vereen of Valencia High School for being selected as the Lockheed Federal Credit Union Player of the Week.

Shane Vereen, a Valencia High School junior, contributed greatly to Valencia's 35 to 21 win over Bishop Amat Friday Night.

On his first carry of the season, Vereen avoided a pair of tacklers at the line of scrimmage and ran 69 yards down the sideline and into the end zone for Valencia's first touchdown.

Dodgers Beat Giants 7-1

Ruling Banning Pledge Requires Immediate Appeal to 9th Circuit

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich called for an immediate appeal to today's ruling banning the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance by students enrolled in Sacramento-area school districts by U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton.   

Mitchell School Helping Children Affected by Hurricane Katrina

Mitchell Community School is reaching out to help the children affected by Hurricane Katrina. We're working with the "Kids Need to Be Kids Campaign" supported by Kappa Delta, in which new toys, books and games are being collected for youth organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and church groups within the hurricane area. Mitchell students invite the community to join in.

14 North Shutdown After Accident

The 14 Freeway northbound in the Acton area remains closed after a big rig over-turned, spilling airline fuel all over the freeway earlier this morning. According to current CHP estimates, this problem is not expected to be resolved for several hours. Consider using Sierra Highway as an alternate route for the time being if you need to get up to the Antelope Valley.
