    I-5 Gorman Fire Contained

    Los Angeles County Fire responded to a call shortly after 2:00a.m. on the northbound I-5 just south of Gorman.  They found a big rig fully engulfed and a resulting five acre roadside fire.  Los Angeles County Fire and Kern County Fire responded and others were summoned as the fire progressed to 15 then 35 acres.  All northbound lanes of the I-5 were closed while the engine companies worked.  The fire was fully contained by 5:00a.m. with the responding engine companies leaving the site by 8:00am.

    Litters a Serious Problem for Highways

    Los Angeles & Ventura Counties spend more than $4.5 million per year removing litter, mattresses, lumber, & more from the highways.

    CalTrans is responsible for clearing debris & trash off California highways in partnership with the California Highway Patrol.

    Giving Kids Much-needed Clothes

    Mervyn's 13th annual ChildSpree is a back-to-school shopping spree for economically disadvantaged children...

         On Saturday, August 6, 100 children aged 6 to 15 were given $100 to spend on clothes and shoes at Mervyn's on Magic Mountain Parkway.  The children were selected by the Child and Family Center and the Salvation Army.


         The children also received free backpacks and 10% off all their purchases.  Mervyn's, CMA Resource and local Remax realtor Paul Atkins raised the $10,000 needed to give the 100 children a free shopping spree.

    Carpool Lane Construction Updates

     Sylmar/North San Fernando Valley – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes, ramps and connectors of the Golden State Freeway(I-5) as part of a $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:

    Dodgers Lose to Pirates 9-4

    With the game ending early in the top of the 9th inning, the Dodgers lost to the Pirates 9-4 Saturday evening.  The Dodgers will finish the three game series in Pittsburgh Sunday morning at 10 a.m., before they return home from their road trip.
