SCV Teacher Next Teacher of the Year?

The "Academy Awards for Teachers" gets underway this weekend and one local teacher is among an elite group of 45 getting ready to spend a week in Anaheim for fun, learning and celebration. 

Top Nguyen, a sixth grade teacher at Bridgeport Elementary in Valencia, is up for the prestigious Disney Teacher of the Year title.

Sheriffs Broomball for Charity

The Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station will be hosting a Broomball Game for charity on Thursday, July 21.  Deputies from the Sheriff Station will play against employees from the City of Santa Clarita, Officers from the Newhall CHP Station, and Explorers from the Sheriff Station.


Game time on July 21 is from 6:00pm to 10:30pm at the Ice Station on Smyth Drive in Valencia.  The cost is $2.00.

Broomball is similar to an ice hockey game but is played in tennis shoes instead of ice skates and a broom instead of a hockey stick.

Inmate Escapes From Pitchess

At approximately 1am early Wednesday morning, KHTS received notification that an inmate has escaped the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic. The inmate's name is Bairon Perez, and is described as Hispanic, 5 foot 4 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds. Pitchess officials are advising residents to keep doors locked while they work to bring the suspect into custody.

Dodgers Lose to Phillies 5-4

The Dodgers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday night, 5 to 4, in 10 innings. Our next broadcast- Wednesday at 3:30pm, Dodgers vs. Phillies in Game 2 of the series- on AM-1220, KHTS!

Nominations Open for Districts Seats

Monday marked the first day to file nomination papers to run for public office in the November elections. 

Prospective candidates have until August 12 to file papers, according to L.A. County Registrar-Recorder Conny McCormick.
