Dodgers Beat NY Mets 6-5

The Los Angeles Dodgers took the win over the New York Mets 6-5.  Jeff Kent started the Dodgers lead early by bringing in the first run.  Soon after the Dodgers increased their lead to 6-0.  Even though the Mets rallied back to make it a close 6-5 game, the Dodgers stayed strong keeping the lead and securing the win.  Tune in tomorrow at 11:30am to Your Hometown Station AM-1220 KHTS for more exciting Dodger baseball.

Lane Closures Continue for I-5/126 Interchange & McBean Ramp Repairs

Santa Clarita – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) and State Route 126 as part of a $24-million project to improve the I-5/126 Interchange; and also perform on- and off-ramp repairs at Mc Bean Parkway -- from Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29:


Second Stage Power Alert in Effect Statewide

Thanks to the triple-digit temperatures and the huge demand on power supplies, officials are asking residents to conserve energy to prevent having to shut off power...

Southern California Edison set record demand on Thursday, supplying about 21,800 megawatts, which surpassed the previous record of 21,112 megawatts set Wednesday. A megawatt is enough power to serve about 750 average homes.

Performing Arts Centers Nonexistent

Hart School Board members have had some conflicts over the handling of the proposed performing arts centers at Saugus and Canyon High schools....

Because of limited funding, the original plans for these centers as part of the schools' modernization process have been cancelled.

River: Endangered or Not?

The Newhall Land and Farming Co. says that the label of the Santa Clara River being one of "America's most endangered rivers of 2005" is wrong....

Spokespeople from Newhall Land claim that the environmental group making this claim has not met with them....  The declaration implies that Newhall Land is not concerned with the environment, while Newhall Land officials claim that with new developments, such as the recently proposed one on Newhall Ranch, take the environment into careful consideration.

Locks of Love

Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society had an added bonus this year, “Locks of Love”.  Six people unselfishly and generously donated their hair to children in need.


City: Do Not Fear Redevelopment

Newhall residents and property owners don't need to fear losing their property to the redevelopment of the tired community, city staff told the Planning Commission on Tuesday.

As part of the commission's regular meeting, city staff conducted their second public hearing regarding the draft Downtown Newhall specific plan, which proposes to revitalize the community into "a thriving, mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented urban village".

Funds Granted to Fight Teen Alcohol Use

In a move designed to keep liquor out of the hands of Santa Clarita's minors, the city has received an $80,000 grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, or ABC...

The grant's intended to help local agencies limit the availability of alcohol to minors, reduce alcohol-related disturbances & crimes, & ensure local establishments comply with alcohol laws.

Escaped Convict Remains at Large

A convicted drug dealer remained at large Wednesday after he escaped from Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic while performing laundry duty, according to sheriff's officials.

Medium-security inmate Bairon Perez, 34, had somehow removed a monitoring anklet & escaped Tuesday nite wearing jail-issued clothes.
