Santa Clarita City Councilwoman Marsha McLean will step up her government involvement next week when she's installed as the 2005-06 treasurer for the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities.

Massive Crash Causes Jam Up on the 5

Two tractor-trailer rigs collided this morning (Thursday), setting off flames from hazardous materials, & creating a brush fire...shutting down Interstate 5 near Parker Road. Both directions of the 5 freeway were blocked in the Castaic area as police & fire crews attempted to get the scene under control.  Once the fire covering the trucks was put out, officials say the flames spread to nearby hills.  At this time we have no reports on injuries. We'll have more on this story as information comes to us.

A waitress's would-be killer had what officials call a 'murder kit' in his car's trunk.

Antonovich Proposes Scholarships To Recruit Critical Care Nurses

Los Angeles – To address the severe shortage in critical care nurses in trauma care facilities and emergency rooms in Los Angeles County, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Supervisor Antonovich’s motion that proposed a scholarship program for nurses who commit to serving four years at Los AngelesCounty’s hospitals or clinics.

Students Temporarily Displaced

Tesoro Del Valle Elementary will open soon, but the kids will have to share the building as another school is renovated.

Third Times a Charm for West Creek?

After two prior approvals, & subsequent appeals, an environmental report for development  gets supervisor's okay.  It goes for final approval later this year.

For the third time, county supervisors Tuesday approved an environmental impact report for West Creek, a 2,400-plus home development planned for north Valencia.
