    City of Santa Clarita to Distribute Used Oil Recycling Kits

    On June 22 and 29, 2005, the City of Santa Clarita will distribute free used oil recycling kits to Santa Clarita residents. The free kits will be given out at upcoming “Route 66 Bike Night” events. Both “Bike Nights” will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Route 66 Classic Bar & Grill, located at 18730 Soledad Canyon Road.

    More Deputies Hired

    Los Angeles County Supervisors unanimously voted to use a portion of a $1 billion budget surplus to hire hundreds of deputies to be placed in the Santa Clarita Valley....

    The county plans to use the money to hire more prosecutors and replenish reserves for health care which has faced many challenges locally in recent times.


    More than 1,200 new sheriff's personnel will be sworn in, according to the new budget.

    McKeon Applauds Passage of Defense Funding Bill

    U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) praised last night's passage of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006, which contained millions of dollars in Pentagon projects for the 25th Congressional District.  The bill passed the House by a vote of 398 to 19.

    Fire Season Is Here

    A small 2 acre brush fire broke out about 2 p.m. Monday afternoon near the business complex at the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway....

    Los Angeles County Fire Spokesman Mike McCormick said it was a small fire, extinguished in just 15 minutes, yet it serves as another last minute reminder for residents and business owners to clear brush around their homes and establishments.

    Crime Statistics Actually Down

    Santa Clarita officials recently disputed a recent FBI report which showed an increase in violent crime and reported rapes in 2004....

    The statistics are raw in numbers, not percentages which reflect rising population.  According to City Manager Ken Pulskamp, rates actually declined in nine categories when population is taken into consideration.
