    Ridge Route Remains Closed

Because of the winter floods, the Ridge Route, the original link between the Santa Clarita Valley and Bakersfield, remains closed throughout the summer....

The Ridge Route is one of the state's oldest highways, built in 1915.  It is one of the most expensive roads to maintain due to the water in the mountains.

A 75-foot long section of the road slipped 15 feet into the canyon and broke a 26-inch natural gas pipeline.

An Edison Company tower was also lost when the hill gave way.
