Vikings Lose To Royal 2-0

Valencia's girls softball team, the Vikings, lost to the Royal Highlanders Friday night at the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship in Irvine.

Not seven almost-perfect innings of relief from sophomore pitcher Jordan Taylor could do it. Not six runners in scoring position could, either. Nothing was going to erase a first inning that saw Royal pounce on Valencia's mistakes in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Softball Championship game at Deana Manning Stadium in Irvine.

Congratulations to the Highlanders and the Valencia Vikings on a fantastic season.

Girl Hit by Truck While Crossing Street

Several crashes dotted Santa Clarita roadways Friday; one outside of Valencia High School left a teenager seriously injured on the last day of class.

A 15-year-old Valencia student was struck by a truck as she and two of her friends dashed across Newhall Ranch Road. The Girls left a 7-Eleven store near the school and ran across the street at about 12:30 p.m., said sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra. One girl saw the truck coming and ran back to the curb. Emergency crews assessed the teenager's injuries on the scene, deeming them serious but non-life threatening.
