Another Brush Fire In Lancaster

Another brush fire, this time in Lancaster, continued burning Monday night after igniting near the area of Lancaster Road and Muntz Road. Over 500 acres have burned so far and as of 6pm Monday night, the fire was at 10 percent containment. 220 firefighters have taken part in the effort to put the fire out, and so far no structures have burned, and no injuries have been reported.

McKeon Introduces Legislation for Perchlorate Clean Up in SCV

(Washington, DC) --  U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) late last week introduced legislation which would authorize $35 million in additional funding to study and clean up perchlorate contamination at the former Whitaker-Bermite defense industrial site in Santa Clarita.  Of the $35 million, $10 millions would be earmarked to study a long term solution to the problem of groundwater contamination as a result of perchlorate, and $25 million would be directed for clean up efforts.  It is Rep. Another Fiery Weekend in Santa Clarita

The second fire in the Santa Clarita Valley within two days burned 60 acres of dry grass along a Canyon Country hillside Sunday....

About 150 firefighters plus four water-dropping helicopters fought the fire which is still under investigation.

The fire began about 1 p.m. north of Soledad Canyon Road near Sierra Highway and drew many spectators.  The fire was put out shortly before 3 p.m.

On Saturday, another fire charred 125 acres of grass and brush in Hasley Canyon.

Relay For Life Successful

The Santa Clarita Valley Relay For Life, held at College of the Canyons over the past weekend, raised nearly $400,000, up at least $10,000 from last year....

The Relay is a 24-hour event held from 9 a.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday the last weekend of every June. 

This year's relay saw an increase in participation by 10 new teams joining the cause.  Each team has at least one member walking around the track during the 24-hour period.

Dodgers lose to the Angels 5-3

Fire burned 60 acres in the region of North Sierra Highway and Scherzinger

A brush fire has burned sixty acres in the region of North Sierra Highway and Scherzinger this afternoon.  The Fire Department was dispatched at 12:57 pm, and 125 firefighters have extinguished the blaze.

Proposal Excludes Sex Offenders From Public Housing

Upon learning that a sex offender was living in the Housing Authority's Orchard Arms complex near a school in Santa Clarita, Supervisor Antonovich immediately directed County Counsel and outside legal counsel to determine actions which could be initiated to prevent another registered offender from moving into public housing.
