College of the Canyons Graduation Friday, May 20, at 6 pm

College of the Canyons graduates 1,153 Friday night, May 20

        SANTA CLARITA - The 2005 graduating class at College of the Canyons will celebrate commencement at 6 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005. One thousand, one hundred fifty three students have applied for graduation. This is a 15.6 percent increase over last year.  The class consists of 672 women and 481 men.  They will assemble in the central-campus, outdoor Honor-Grove location that has become the traditional site of the graduation ceremony. 

Training of Sheriffs Forensic Scientists Grant is Authorized

Los Angeles - To secure continued education and training programs for forensic scientists, the Board of Supervisors unanimously authorized the Sheriff's Department to submit an application for a state grant, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

Bike to Work on Thursday!

Thursday, May 19th, is National Bike to Work Day, and everyone in Santa Clarita is invited to participate....

Mayor Cameron Smyth and City Manager Ken Pulskamp are among those who will bike to work on Thursday.

Ten Vehicles Involved in Rush Hour Crash

Shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, a big r-g slammed into a car stopped in traffic on the Southbound lanes of the 14 at the Truck Route connector to the 5, shutting down the truck route for several hours.... 

Several parties were taken to Henry Mayo Hospital for treatment, but there were no serious injuries. 

Shortly before that wreck, there was a separate unrelated accident in the Northbound lanes of the 14 near Escondido Canyon Road in which a truck carrying a load of bricks, sand and cement, spilled its load.

3rd Annual Artists Showcase at Hyatt

The third annual Artists Showcase will be held May 22, 2005 at the Hyatt Valencia, from 10:00 to 5:00 PM.

Dodgers Beat The Marlins! 14 - 5

An outstanding comeback victory for the Dodgers against the Florida Marlins. The game final was 14 - 5 in game two of this three game home series. Tune into AM 1220, KHTS Wednesday at 11:30 am for game three.

Additional Closures for I-5


      Sylmar/North San Fernando Valley – The California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following additional lanes, ramps
and connectors of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) from May 17 through May 20
-- as part of a $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle,
(HOV), or carpool lanes on northbound and southbound I-5 from Route 118 to

Billiards Store Robbed

Three people held up a billiards store on the west side of town Monday, getting away with around $4,000 from the store and a salesman's wallet....

Justin Marks, a salesman at the store, said a woman came in around 10:15 a.m. saying she wanted to order a billiard table, went to get her wallet, then two men came in with guns saying, "This is a robbery."

Sheriff's deputies took a report but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information pertaining to the robbery is asked to contact the Sheriff's Department at (661) 255-1121.
