Expect Company on the Roads Over Weekend

Caltrans spokeswoman Jeanne Bonfilio says the Memorial Day weekend will bring record numbers of drivers, and motorists should expect extra delays because of several construction projects....

On an average day, nearly 350,000 cars drive through the I-5 and 14 Freeway interchange.  This weekend will bring more cars and more delays, particularly because of the new carpool lanes set for groundbreaking today along the Golden State Freeway between the 118 Freeway and the 14 Freeway.

The HOV (High occupancy vehicle) lanes are expected to be completed by 2007.

Dodgers Trounce Giants 6-4

The Dodgers capped an exciting night with another game in the win column, defeating the San Francisco Giants 6-4 Thursday night. The Dodgers now head to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks live Friday night at 6:30pm on AM-1220 KHTS!

McKeon Applauds Funding For Defense Projects

(Washington, DC)  -- U.S. Reps. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) and Bill Thomas (R-Bakersfield) hailed the passage of H.R. 1815, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006, legislation which included authorization for projects they requested for Edwards Air Force Base, the Naval Air Warfare Center -Weapons Division at China Lake, and at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin.

City Increases Graffiti Penalties

The Santa Clarita City Council approved a resolution this week that upholds more harsh penalities for local vandals....

Property damage over $400 is considered a felony, and in addition to these penalties, parents will also be looked as as a responsible party when it comes to graffiti-related crimes.

Parents and Teachers Speak Up Against Racism

In the ongoing debate about allegations of racism at Valencia High School, and in light of the lawsuit being brought about the school and the Wm. S. Hart District, teachers and community members held a press conference Wednesday, defending the administration and hailing the school for its diverse backgrounds....

As heard on KHTS Wednesday afternoon and recapped on Thursday's Hometown Morning Show, teachers and parents of VHS students of all racial backgrounds acknowledged that there is indeed racism but it is not rampant, as the accusations claim.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants, 10-2 in a game heard live Wednesday night on KHTS. The third and final game of the series is on the air Thursday night at 6:30pm!

Activists Unhappy about New Development

The City Council unanimously approved a proposed housing development north of the Santa Clara River on Tuesday....

This approval came despite environmentalists' opposition to the development, with over 1,000 homes.

Part Time COC Contract in Negotation

College of the Canyons has negotiated a contract with its full-time employees, but part-timers are still working to come up with an agreement before students show up for classes in the fall....

The Board of Trustees is optimistic that an agreement is around the corner, despite the fact that the part-timers have hired professional negotiators to strike their deal.
