    Rio Vista Elem. To Celebrate Teacher Appreciation

    The PTA will host "A World Of Thanks" for its teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 9-13. The week long event includes an appreciation assembly with city council member Marsha McLean at 1:50 at the outdoor stage May 9, and continues with many more activities throughout the week. The teachers will be treated to luncheons, brunches, a performance by Rio Vista choir, Canyon High's Madrigal singers, raffles and massages. For more information; contact Stacy Peterson.     Dodgers Defeated by Nationals 6-2

    In the first game of a three game series, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Washington Nationals 6-2.  Catch the second game of the series on your Hometown Station AM 1220 KHTS Tuesday night at 6:30 pm!

    Freeway Shooting in Santa Clarita

    The Northbound 14 freeway was closed due to shooting. The shooting happened just after 3 pm. No injuries, but a windshield was blown out. A black Acura was involved. Since the 14 freeway was closed, for about an hour, there is congestion backed up to the 405 freeway.

    Local Businesses Not in Compliance

    About 60 business signs in Santa Clarita are not in compliance with the current rent sign ordinance...

    The current ordinance, which went into effect in 1999, allows for signs up to 35 ft high with a 200-square-foot surface space.

    Saugus High Scores in Top 10 on National French Exam

    Romina Del Castillo (senior), Jennifer Gibson (junior) and Melody Akhtari (junior) of Saugus High School have ranked in the top 10 nationally in the 70th annual event, according to Lisa Narug, National Director of Le Grand Concours. Le Grand Concours is a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills in French.

    Diversity Survey Released

    The Business Subcommittee of the Hart School District’s Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity is circulating a survey to members of the Valley Industrial Association seeking information on how well local companies are responding to the Santa Clarita Valley’s increasingly diverse employment base.
