    Astronomy Day Celebration at Valencia Library

    The Local Group Astronomy Club will celebrate Astronomy Day 2005 on April 16 at The Valencia Library. The theme for this years program is "Our Silvery Moon". The festivities begin at 1:00 pm with Safe Solar Observation. See sunspots and solar flares through the best telescopes in the valley.     Lane Closures Continue on I-5 and 126 Freeways

    Santa Clarita – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) and State Route 126 as part of a $24-million project to improve the I-5/126 Interchange, from Monday, April 18 through Friday, April 22. INTERSTATE 5:

    ·     Daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

    -     One lane of southbound I-5 from Hasley Canyon Road to Rye Canyon Road
    -     One lane of northbound I-5 from Rye Canyon Road to Hasley Canyon Road

    STATE ROUTE 126:

    ·     Daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

    Final Hearing for Leg of Cross-Valley Connector

    The public has until April 26th to review the final enviornmental report for a piece of the cross-valley connector that may be under way in the fall...

    The section of the connector under review will extend along Newhall Ranch Road from Copperhill Drive to the I-5.  If both local and federal officials approve the documents, construction could begin by November.

    Full Freeway Closures Scheduled for Bridge Maintenance

    LOS ANGELES COUNTY- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
    will close all lanes of the southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5), from
    Weldon Canyon Road to Balboa Boulevard, nightly, Friday, April 15, 11:59
    p.m. until 6 a.m., and Saturday, April 16, 11 p.m. until 7 a.m., weather
    permitting, to perform bridge maintenance work.
    Various northbound and southbound lanes and overcrossings (bridges over the
    freeway) of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) will also be closed
    intermittently to perform bridge maintenance work, nightly, Wednesday,

    Cowboy Festivals Artists Quick Draw!

    One of the very BEST events at the City of Santa Clarita's 12th annual Cowboy Festival is the Artists' Quick draw, which will be held on Thursday, April 28, 8 p.m. at the fabulous William S. Hart Mansion and Museum, which sits atop a hill with the Hart park area. The Spanish colonial Revival style mansion contains original furnishings, an impressive collection of western art, mementos of early Hollywood and Native American artifacts.

    Day of Silence Supports Gay Rights

    Students of the Gay-Straight Alliance at College of the Canyons celebrated the national "Day of Silence" on Wednesday....

    The silence is designed to echo the silence and harassment that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people generally are subjected to in society.


    The Day of Silence began just three years ago with 150,000 students nationwide and grew to over 400,000 participants by 2004.

    Wildflowers on Display At Devils Punchbowl County Park
