Castellanos Signs on for $50,000 More Than Lee

Newly signed William S. Hart Union High School District Superintendent Jaime Castellanos will receive an annual salary of $185,000, about $50,000 more than the outgoing superintendent, according to a three-year contract released by the district Friday.
Castellanos, who inherits the title district superintendent from Robert C. Lee in July, will also receive a number of benefits as part of his contract, including $5,000 in relocation reimbursements during his move from Orange County to the Santa Clarita Valley.

Remembrance Turns Political

A memorial for David March turned to a political rally Friday against laws that prevented the slain deputy from perceiving danger and an apparently indifferent federal government that won’t pursue justice.
    “Politics and cheap labor: A combination of greed and fear of political reprisal keeps those borders open for people to come in and do terrible things,” said Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, one of three prominent speakers at a memorial on the third-year anniversary of March’s murder.

10th Anniversary of Pet Adoption Program

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich presented the 500th shelter pet for adoption at the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 26, 2005, the 10th Anniversary of the Board's Pet Adoption Program. Each week at the Board meeting, Supervisor Antonovich showcases a pet in need of a home from one of the six County Animal Shelters.  Since its inception, this successful program has found homes for 429 dogs, 67 cats, 2 rabbits and a guinea pig, with more than 250 county employees adopting pets through this weekly pet presentation.    

Beijing Technology Official to Speak at Local Conference

      SANTA CLARITA--The section chief and vice-researcher of the China Technology Market Management and Promotion Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Bejing has accepted an invitation to speak at the 2005 Expanding Business with China Conference to be held at the Valencia Hyatt, May 3.        Lei Qingxi will speak on "Technology: A Bridge to Cooperation," during one of the morning plenary sessions.

Controlled Burns Cancelled Today In Castaic

Mike McCormack, Public Information Officer for the Los Angeles County Fire Department informed KHTS radio that today's controlled burn has been cancelled due to yesterday's rain storm. The burn is part of a weekly fire exercise at the Peter Pitchess Honor Ranch. Stay tuned to AM-1220, KHTS for rescheduling information.

Former Cop Pleads Guilty to Online Fraud

Castaic resident Sean McCarthy Frank, a former Glendale police officer, pleaded no contest to auction fraud...

Frank sold items on eBay, creating false accounts to bid on his own items.  He is expected to be sentenced May 9th and faces up to three years of probation.
