Deputies Shoot Knife-Wielding Man

Sheriff’s deputies shot a knife-brandishing man on the sidewalk Friday night in Stevenson Ranch after he allegedly didn’t follow their orders. The deputies were responding to a reported stabbing.

“They were yelling, ‘Don’t do it! Don’t do it!’ and then he lunged at them,” said Evelyn Lozano, 43, who witnessed the shooting as she stood outside her home at the corner of The Old Road and Sagecrest Circle.

City Streets are Cracking Up

As cracks develop in the asphalt road, water seeps inside them, soaking into the road base that supports the asphalt. The base deteriorates, softens and moves up and down, further splaying the cracks.

Santa Clarita Named 5th Safest City in Nation

The City of Santa Clarita is the 5th safest city in the nation for cities with a population over 100,000, according to crime rates from the FBI report for January through June of 2004.

Basketball Scores for January 14, 2005

In a high school basketball game heard live on AM-1220 KHTS, the Saugus Centurions lost to the Valencia Vikings, 63 - 57. In other games, Santa Clarita Christian lost to Hillcrest 80 - 52. Hart defeated Burbank 47 - 44 and Canyon beat Burroughs 73 - 63.

Current Road Closures

Here are the current road closures and newest road openings as of 4pm Friday:

Vasquez Canyon Rd., entire stretch from Bouquet to Sierra closed due to the bridge being washed out. (No estimation from CHP on when it will reopen)


North Sierra Highway from Vasquez closed to Red Rover Mine Road, the road is  washed out south of the Halfway House Café and also south of  Le Chene (CHP estimates this to reopen by Monday)


Davenport road is open at Agua Dulce Canyon Road but you cannot access Sierra Highway from it


Senator George Runner Named To Key Committees

Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) was named to serve on four key Senate committees in addition to the two committees that he currently serves on as the vice chair.

Bridgeport Elementary Remains Closed

Because of a gas leak that may not have even been related to the rain, Bridgeport Elementary school remains closed today, and Monday through the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as a safety precaution...

The school was reopened Wednesday before officials determined the leak had not been completely contained. 

Officials plan to open the school Tuesday.


Polynesian Mobile Home Residents Let Back In

Residents of the Polynesian Mobile Home Park are being let back into their homes as of 1:30 PM today.  The rains flooded the entire park and filled it with mud.  Many of the homes were damaged.  A total of 29 homes were red-tagged.  No Gas will be available to residents.

City Sustains over $1.2 Million in Damage

In the aftermath of the latest winter storm from last weekend, the City of Santa Clarita has its first assessment of the damage from flooding, totalling nearly $1.3 million....

The estimate includes damage to public property, including parks, trails, and roads, as well as the cost for emergency services during and after the storms.

During the state of emergency which was declared on Saturday, January 8, four residences were destroyed, 11 sustained major damage and 25 had minor damage.  A total of 104 residences in the City were affected by the storm.
