Freeway Repairs Cost $85 Million

The recent storms have caused quite a havoc on roads all over the Southland, but especially in and around Santa Clarita....

In particular, one of the problem areas is the I-5 near Templin Highway, which sustained damage because of ground water flowing through the adjacent hill which caused it to move.  Crews are still trying to drain the hill by drilling holes in its side.

Paradise Ranch Residents Recover

Weeks after the rains sent Paradise Ranch residents out of their mobile homes, the mud and water once one foot deep has been cleared....

No homes were red tagged, but nine homes sustained severe damage following the storms.


The entire park continues to run without running water and sewer facilities, so residents are forced to use 10 Andy Gump toilets instead.

Students Get Involved In Arbor Day, 2005

The City of Santa Clarita’s Urban Forestry Division began distributing Coloring and Essay contest flyers to local schools for the upcoming Arbor Day Celebration. This year marks the 16th consecutive year that the City of Santa Clarita has held an Arbor Day Event. The celebration will be held on March 19, 2005, at Bridgeport Park, located at 23520 Bridgeport Lane and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Garage Sale for AYSO Tournament Team FULL FORCE

On Saturday, February 5, 2005 there will be a GARAGE SALE in the parking lot of the Boys & Girls Club at Sierra Vista in Canyon Country.  This sale will benefit the AYSO U-14 Boys Tournament team, FULL FORCE of Region 677. Fifteen families are involved, so there should be a LOT of GREAT things available. The hours will be 8:00am until 2:00pm at 19301 Pleasantdale, Canyon Country

School Kids Clean Up

    People are moved by mysterious — and not so mysterious drives. One of these forces is the promise of extra credit in school classes.
    It was also a sense of pride and community that inspired scores of students and their parents to spend Saturday morning wrestling with weeds, cleaning out mucky trash and planting greenery at Rio Norte Junior High School in Valencia. . .

Regular Metrolink Service Resumes Monday

Metrolink service is expected to be back to normal Monday following this week's derailment tragedy that left 11 people dead and injured nearly 200.

But no service will be offered today, said Denise Tyrrell, Metrolink Spokeswoman


Monday, "trains will will be slower moving through the area of the accident, moving about 30 mph," Tyrrell said.

Gas Prices Back Above $2

After nearly three months of declines, the average price of gasoline in the Santa Clarita Valley rose back above the $2 per gallon mark Thursday.

 “Prices are rising dramatically. We literally have a price change every day,” said Randy Cressall, owner of the Valencia Chevron AutoSpa.
    A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sold for an average of $2.066 in the valley Thursday, which is up from $1.990 in mid-January, but down from the December price of $2.109, according to a survey conducted for The Signal by Cressall on Thursday.

Friday Night High School Basketball Scores

In a basketball game heard live on KHTS Friday Night, Hart defeated Canyon 47-30.  In other local basketball action, Saugus crushed Burbank 83-47, and Valencia beat Burroughs 82-74.

Sirens Go Off, Deputy Escapes

At 9:18 a.m. Thursday, Sheriff's deputies launched a search for an "inmate" working in the laundry room at Pitchess Detention center....

The "inmate" was really Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Lutz, who was playing the role of being an inmate.


Officials were testing the warning system that goes off if and when a prisoner escapes from the facility.


Sirens are placed along the Golden State (I-5) Freeway between Castaic and Stevenson Ranch.  Some residents did not receive word that this was a "test," so some nerves were rattled.

KHTS Advisory Board Presents Gift

On a day of food and merriment, KHTS's Advisory Board presented the radio station with an emergency KHTS raincoat in a Jan. 27 luncheon.
