School Crime Down

According to an Associated Press report, violent crime in schools was down 50 percent over the last decade....

The drop in crime reflects the reduction found outside schools as well.

Valencia Flyers Fly High On Win

The Valencia Flyers hockey team zipped across the ice to fight for a third place position in the second annual Toast of the Coast PEe Wee Invitational Tournament....

The Flyers is an all-boys team of kids 12 and under.  The Flyers were the only team in Santa Clarita to make the tournament.

Hispanic Business Committee Mixer

The Hispanic Business Committee of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a holiday mixer on Thursday, December 2 from 6-10 PM. The mixer will be held at La Rumba Restaurant located at 27600 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. This networking event will include a toy drive benefiting local children from the Boys and Girls Club and Single Mother’s Outreach. Donations may include new unwrapped toys suited to children 14 and under. The proceeds will be distributed by the SCV Jaycees. The cost is $5 RSVP or $10 at the door. Vacancy rate hits six-year valley low

SANTA CLARITA -- Office space is scarce in the Santa Clarita Valley, where the vacancy rate has plummeted to a six-year low in the past 18 months, according to an economic outlook for the area. Doctors, lawyers, accountants and a range of support businesses filled vacant offices this year -- accounting for a drop in the vacancy rate from January's 13.8 percent of the 2.38 million square feet in the valley to 4.1 percent by the end of September, according to Mark Schniepp, director of the California Economic Forecast.

Council Tables Oak Ordinance Changes

Santa Clarita City Council members tabled plans to change the oak tree preservation ordinance after a public outcry over those changes.

Residents and activists representing the Sierra Club and the Santa Clarita Organization for Planning the Environment railed at the council over a clause in the proposed new ordinance that allows five oak trees to be removed by residents over a five-year period.

The College of the Canyons Cougars beat the Grossmont Griffins 30-0 in the second game of the Western State Conference football playoffs. Next Saturday, the Cougars will play Saddleback College in Orange County.
