Air Quality Poor Today

Smoke from Sayre fire prompts warning to stay inside.

From Newhall to Canyon Country, the air is thick with the
stench of charred brush, after three and a half days of the Sayre fire’s run
over the mountains just south of Santa Clarita.

Until yesterday, the wind had blown the smoke out of Santa Clarita;
however calm conditions have now left a blanket of unhealthy particles in our air.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District lists our
current air conditions as “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” their second lowest rating.  Such warnings have prompted
schools across Santa Clarita to monitor the air quality throughout the day and
restrict outdoor activity accordingly. Residents are also advised to keep
indoors when at home too, and to avoid extended periods of time outdoors until
the smoke clears out.

Fire fighters have made significant progress on the Sayre
fire, and to read the latest updates on that situation, click
