$17,000 Donated To Disaster Coalition By Japan Rotary
Money officially donated during Rotary’s International convention.
As October’s wildfires raged through our backyards in Santa Clarita, help from local, state and federal levels started to pour in. However, the US was not alone in the battle, as many eyes from across the Pacific were also watching and preparing to help.
The Rotary Club is an international organization dedicated to providing humanitarian services, alleviating poverty and spreading goodwill throughout the world.
Our local Rotary district was involved in relief efforts after October’s wildfires; however they were also on the eve of an exchange program with a Rotary District in Japan. So as several of Japan’s Rotarians saw the need here in Santa Clarita, they immediately sprang into action soliciting donations from every Rotary club in Japan.
When all the money was counted, Japan’s Rotarians had donated a whopping $17,118.
“They were so extremely generous,” said Rotary member Juliet Mothershed. “Every club gave something.”
The check was officially presented to the Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition at the Rotary’s International convention on June 16th.
The Disaster Coalition benefits all local fire victims, and is still working with families to help them rebuild their homes and replace their lost or damaged property.
